Great road trip

Mike, thanks for the great road trip that you took us on. I really appreciate the efforts that you go to, to entertain and inform us about your part of the world. Maybe I can do something similar here. Once again, many thanks.

Cheers, Simon

ER, That was a great ride. I never really thought of it but next time I take the Pa Pike from Lancaster Pa to Pittsburgh Pa I'll remember to grab the camera, and let the wife drive.

Thanks for the nice pics of our diverse Commonwealth! Since you are in the capital city now and again, take a look with your camera at the NS RR bridge that crosses the Susquehanna (paralleling I-83). All manner of freight traffic can be caught at any time of day. I drive it twice a day and along with the un-repainted (is that a word?) Conrail units mixed with the Norfolk Southern ones, I've seen CSX, Burlington Northern and Santa Fe paint schemes many many times. One consist the other day had 4 engines: CR blue/white, NS black/white, SF orange/black and CSX yellow/blue all in one consist!
If you drive the southern end of 2nd street in Harrisburg, look up at the black RR bridge you pass under. Reading Lines herald still very visible!
Than again for sharing!

Matt

fond memories of NJ & PA...

When I first started trucking I ran a lot out of Wilkes-Barre into New Jersey. I've always wanted to go back and spend a couple of weeks just roaming around - beautiful country! I'll always remember the Suzy-Q bridge at Harrisburg... Delaware Water Gap... Spending 3 days in a huge snowstom at the Petro in Breezeway... taking 3 1/2 hours to get over Town Hill...
Thanks!

Cool The Keystone is a beautiful state.

Thanks guys for rediscovering this thread. I lament a bit that I don't have that job anymore, and I don't get out there like I used to. (But I like what I'm doing now! )

Anyway, one place I REALLY wanted to get pics of was the Steel Plant south of the City of Harrisburg, as there's still lots of PRR infrastructure, and the Mill itself is just fascinating. It has a rail mill there, and you can usually see rail trains sitting in there, along with lots of the older parts of the facility still standing.

There's a rail line that runs on the west side of the river going south that sees lots of unit coal trains (funny as they go past Three Mile Island... ) And the Triple Crown Yard and Intermodal facility with the remote GP-38's up off I-83 not too far from the PA Greenstamp is fascinating stuff as well.

A person could spend a week in that town and not get to see all the great train stuff there. And I didn't mention the Rockville Viaduct, the Harrisburg Train Station, or any of the other landmark places!! It's a train lover's paradise, and it's also not that far away from Altoona!
