Switch Tower Weathering

Here's our victim, a nice shiny Switch Tower that happened to have a loco passing by. Very Stock, Very Plain!

Okay, so I went and got the washes out, and put in some glazing and then some window shade treatment! This is an "evening" pic with a GP-7 laid up alongside:

It's done with some rust wash, and added glazing, then the glazing colored in to look like window shades. Quick and easy!!

Now I can work on the cars and engines as I get them, one or two at a time. One of the things I tinkered with between layouts was a diorama and tried scenery techniques, and I had a place to show my trains. So I had my cake and got to eat it too!! (And I love cake!!)
Mmmmmmm cakeeeee

A new technique for me

Here's something different I tried with weathering. I had an Athearn PRR Boxcar that the color was just way off on. I don't understand why Athearn did stuff like this, I guess they just ran out of cars to paint, and some flunky pulled out a batch for another road, and they figured any color works for the PRR. Well, that problem is history, since I did this.

Well, anyway, I used some washes, and flooded the sides and hit the roof a few times. I scratched the areas where the doors slide open, the camera didn't pick it up too well, but they're there...Here's pictures of the sides and the top:
