August 2008 Photo of the Month Contest! Disaster Scene!
Its time for another Photo Of The Month Contest!
First lets go over some rules.
1. The prize: The winning photo will be featured on the front page of the forum for the month following the contest. You get bragging rights!!
2. Each month will have a theme (Thanks TrainNut for that suggestion). The submitted photo should follow that theme.
3. Only ONE photo per month per person can be submitted, so make sure the one you submit is the one you want everyone to vote on. Having multiple submissions per person just makes voting difficult, so lets keep it simple.
4. At the end of the monthly contest, I will post a poll that will be open for 7 days in which everyone can vote for their favorite photo. The person with the most votes wins. In case of a tie, I will pick the winner. Depending on the number of entries, I may have to narrow down the choices in the poll.
5. Everyone is eligible.
6. This is supposed to be fun! Who knows, maybe we'll make a calender of the winning photos or something for the next year.. who knows!
7. Photos must be submitted on the monthly photo of the month thread (i.e. April 2007 Photo of the Month thread) started by me (TallDude)
8. The picture MUST be taken by the person submitting the picture. Please also include a short description if the scene. We do not want copyright issues etc.
9. Adding/Removing of features (sky, smoke, etc.) via Photoshop or other graphic program, is not allowed. Everything in the photo must exist in the scene being photographed. (Added 12/14/07)
10. Rules are subject to change if they need to be.
Ok.. now that we have the rules out of the way... onto the photo contest!!
August's theme: Disaster Scene!!!! ! Submit a photo of your favorite disaster scene on your layout! Lots of possibilities! A derailment, a fire, earthquake, you name it!The winner gets bragging rights and will win a spot on the front page of the site for a month!
Note: If you previously entered the photo contest, please submit a different photo for this contest.
Contest End Date: August 31st 2008 11:59:59 PM Eastern

I assumed (and hoped) "disaster scene" meant modeling and not the real thing! This was not a posed shot. It was first run of the day and I didn't notice one of my trees had fallen off the cliff. The Mikado apparently found itself with the tree caught between it and the cliff and something had to give.... the Mikado gave! I had to grab my camera and record it for posterity!

Structure Fire w/Aircraft Down
Seems we have some big excitement going on in Klasseville this evening! The local Dry Cleaners and Pizzeria went up with a roar when the aircraft tried to do an emergency landing on the roof! The solvents in the Dry Cleaners went boom and made a mess in the street, and we even have some Medevac Choppers hovering and landing! (I see a train stories by line coming up on this) I submit my entry...

Yeah, What's Up With That??
Well, if no one else tosses something on, we've got a 25% chance of making it onto the front page! I was looking at the pics, and the Academy is handing out the Awards:
To ABSNUT: Best Realistic Train Wreck
To Nazgul: Best Suspense with a Monster Who Didn't Like What Was In The Barrel
To Domiluk: Best Public Safety Scene For Operation Lifesaver (no lives lost version)
To ER (me) Best Scene From The Towering Inferno Two Story Version
Congratulations to all, and hopefully the Academy will have to cough up some more for the folks who are still putting the "finished and done" touches on their works of Art!
Hey! Like the Magazine says, Model Railroading is Fun!!

Here's my Entry....
Well the Local was being diverted thru the yard to allow for another freight tying up number 2 main and low and behold a loaded Iron Ore car picks the switch and comes close to dumping its load and derailing the car behind it...and the Conductor with red flag in hand is quickly working to get the rest of the train safely out of the way so that the cranes can get in there and get things moving again... As you can see both mains are showing yellow with slow orders issued for all mainline traffic and all stop for the yard and the lead out on to number 2 main...
