There have been several requests for a photo of the month contest.
First lets go over some rules.
1. The prize: The winning photo will be featured on the front page of the forum for the month following the contest. You get bragging rights!!
2. Each month will have a theme (Thanks TrainNut for that suggestion). The submitted photo should follow that theme.
3. Only ONE photo per month per person can be submitted, so make sure the one you submit is the one you want everyone to vote on. Having multiple submissions per person just makes voting difficult, so lets keep it simple.
4. At the end of the monthly contest, I will post a poll that will be open for 7 days in which everyone can vote for their favorite photo. The person with the most votes wins. In case of a tie, I will pick the winner. Depending on the number of entries, I may have to narrow down the choices in the poll.
5. Everyone is eligible.
6. This is supposed to be fun! Who knows, maybe we'll make a calender of the winning photos or something for the next year.. who knows!
7. Photos must be submitted on the monthly photo of the month thread (i.e. April 2007 Photo of the Month thread) started by me (TallDude)
8. The picture MUST be taken by the person submitting the picture. Please also include a short description if the scene. We do not want copyright issues etc.
9. Rules are subject to change if they need to be.
Ok.. now that we have the rules out of the way... onto the photo contest!!
A few people have suggested that the monthly contest is too specific, so here is a contest for everybody!!
Octobers's theme: Fall is upon us and you know what that means... its time for YARD work!! For October's contest, we want to see a picture of your railroad yard area (not your front yard or backyard.)!! Submit a photo of your railroad yard and try to win a spot on the front page of the site!
Contest End Date: October 31st 2007 11:59:59 PM Eastern
TD, I Think I might be the only one with a yard built!!

I don't know TD. I don't think my picture quality is up for the front page. I am pretty sure my modeling is but not my photography. If know one else puts up a picture than I will throw one in. At least thats one way my lousy pic's will have a chance to win!!

Things are busy today. Once those switches get aligned, the Amtrak will be departing and shortly after that, the special excursion right next to her will follow her up the grade. Over on the right hand side a single load of dirt and boulders makes its way around the corner past the construction site.
In the near future, the dead end road briefly visible on the left side foreground will continue across the throat of the yard. Also, soon to follow, the yard should be receiving some badly needed ballast.
My main yards, freight and passenger, have not been scenicked yet so, they look more like a hobby shop flex track display than anything else. However, a small, 2-track yard at Danville is 90% done so, I include this with this month's entries. Here we see a couple of small industries in the background and a small passenger station on the main street, upper left. A local "mixed" train is awaiting the conductor's OK to get rolling. Most of the buildings are plastic kits while the station is a scratch-built, near-copy of the B&A station at Searsport ME. The combine is a bash using two N scale MDC 50' combines.
What the heck, I might as well!! East side of Portage Yard, Portage, Wisconsin
