June 2007 Photo of the Month Contest!
There have been several requests for a photo of the month contest.
First lets go over some rules.
1. The prize: The winning photo will be featured on the front page of the forum for the month following the contest. You get bragging rights!!
2. Each month will have a theme (Thanks TrainNut for that suggestion). The submitted photo should follow that theme.
3. Only ONE photo per month per person can be submitted, so make sure the one you submit is the one you want everyone to vote on. Having multiple submissions per person just makes voting difficult, so lets keep it simple.
4. At the end of the monthly contest, I will post a poll that will be open for 7 days in which everyone can vote for their favorite photo. The person with the most votes wins. In case of a tie, I will pick the winner. Depending on the number of entries, I may have to narrow down the choices in the poll.
5. Everyone is eligible.
6. This is supposed to be fun! Who knows, maybe we'll make a calender of the winning photos or something for the next year.. who knows!
7. Photos must be submitted on the monthly photo of the month thread (i.e. April 2007 Photo of the Month thread) started by me (TallDude)
8. The picture MUST be taken by the person submitting the picture. Please also include a short description if the scene. We do not want copyright issues etc.
9. Rules are subject to change if they need to be.
Ok.. now that we have the rules out of the way... onto the photo contest!!
June's theme: Model Railroad Weathering. Post a pic of your weathered diesel, steam locomotive, or rolling stock!
Contest End Date: June 30th 2007 11:59:59 PM Eastern

Could this be expanded to buildings also or should we remain focused on just the trains part?

I'll bite, just for fun, since I actually took this photo in April 2005!
A couple of "blue dot" Micro-Trains cars pose in front of the Miracle Chair Company in Au Sable Forks. The New York Central double door boxcar on the left was "backdated" from the MTL model by changing the odd boxcar red door back to Jade Green, and the roof was painted black as was NYC practice during the early 1960's, before budget cuts changed that to the same Jade Green. The New Haven boxcar was actually a bit of a mistake from MTL as it was really boxcar red, not black. A lot of weathering suggests that it may have started as brown but now it's so dirty that it looks black. (So does the photo of a car from the prototype series in the Morning Sun Color Guide to the New Haven, which is how I suspect this MTL paint goof originated.) The term "blue dot" refers to my treatment for cars that I want to (eventually) use in a prototypical operating session on the Wilmington; they have body mounted couplers, MTL low profile wheels, and, as can be plainly seen, attempted weathering.

Sorry, I don't have anything for this category that I've weathered and I kind of like the clean look and so don't plan on weathering anything any time soon. I'm gonna have to sit this one out.
