Question Lionel Boxes

I realize that Lionel is very collectible and that Lionel locomotives can fetch 1000s of dollars. But... what about an empty plain brown cardboard Box that a Lionel Set came in? Here's one on ebay for $1000. Someone please explain this to me.

The only comparison I could possibly draw upon is this -
I've got an 8 tractor die cast set from John Deer from the late 70's. IF, they were in like new condition (which they aren't as they got played with extensively) without the box, they would be worth about $30-$40. In primo condition in the original box, they would be worth $80. Hopefully by buying this box, they will be able to complete their set and up the value of the entire collection. I don't know the value of the original train set, but 1000 bucks might be peanuts compared to the worth of the complete set with box.
Still, I've got lots of other things I could do with that kind of money.... like.... buy more trains!!!
