4-6-0

Goody, goody, goody! I just received notification from Micro-Mark that my Bachmann On30 4-6-0 is being packed for shipment!

I will give everybody a report when I get a chance to pet it!

The 4-6-0 is scheduled to arrive today. I will try and get around to doing a mini-review.

4-6-0 Report

The Bachmann On30 4-6-0 arrived today. The short version is that this is an incredible model!

If you liked the Consolidation, you will love this locomotive. The level of detail is simply astounding. Right down to pull chords for the whistle and bell.

The locomotive comes with quite a collection of "customizable" parts. Installed on the loco is a spoked lead truck. A solid wheel lead truck is included. There is a coal load in the tender (along with a little package of loose coal), but a wood load and an oil bunker are included in the box.

There are also different steam and sand domes along with a different stack to "back date" the loco. The loco comes with a boiler tube pilot, but a switcher type pilot is included in the box.

The loco is fairly large. In the photos I have included a Mogul to give some idea of size. The photo doesn't do it justice, and the apparent bulk, created by the wealth and fineness of the detail, is not so apparent in the photo.

I was struck by the wheel profile. The profile on all the wheels is almost finescale. It really adds to the appearance of the loco.

I don't have anywhere to run it at the moment, but I am sure, with Bachmann's history, the smoothness of the mechanism will not be an issue.

In short, and being in danger of repetition, this is a very fine locomotive. And, thanks to the Chinese, the price is extremely attractive. With shipping from Micro-Mark my bill was $205.60.

You will have to pardon the photos. These are quick flash-on-the-camera grab shots.

Wow!!!! That really is a sharp looking locomotive!!! Its great that it comes with all the parts to customize it instead of having to buy a specific road and hack it apart to be more prototypical.
