Non-revenue car of the Week
Most of us have non-revenue cars on our layout so how about a thread covering those?
Several years ago, while scouting out the Bangor and Aroostook's yard in Searsport, Maine, I stumbled upon the old B&A station there, quite run down, and a B&A work car, similarly run-down, parked on a siding. After taking pictures and getting home, I decided I had to model both... which I did. This is the work car (tool car???) and my attempt to model it. I bashed two MDC Overton baggage cars with bits and pieces added.

Looking good Absnut I hadn't really thought about that subject but I think you are right. We all have railcranes or mow cars around thanks for the idea.

Oh man, that just about breaks my heart, seeing that wonderful old baggage car so terribly run down, but...you surely did do a mighty credible job of representing it in miniature! Real fine job, ya made of it, Absnut!

MOW stuff just wouldn't look right shiny and new!
That old baggage looks great! Here's another one of the forgotten relics until there's a need for it:

Like many U.S. railroads, the Bangor and Aroostook RR purchsed some retired troop sleepers after the was. A couple were converted to "power" cars but several were made into cabooses ("Buggies" up here!). One of those cars I would loved to have scratch-built but the proper trucks weren't available, I was delighted when, first, MT released the trucks and, then, the troop sleepers themselves (before I could get going on scratch-building). So, it was natural to proceed with a bash. Here is a converted B&A buggie.

Here's a B&A "power car" in N scale. This one didn't require a lot of cutting, fitting, etc. like the buggy conversion... just a ladder or two and a paint job.

Browsing through a book on the B&M a while ago, I happened across a photo of a non-revenue car that took my fancy: B&M 1111, an old open-platform combine they turned into an "Air Brake Instruction Car". After finding another set of MDC/Athearn Overlands to hack up, I discovered (to my delight) that the combine measured out to be 59' 6.5", the exact measurement of #1111. So, while the windows don't match the original, I set about adding the details necessary to make it, at least, resemble the car. Below are the results, another interesting "add-on" to a freight or passenger train.
