Kato RS3 trouble

I have a Kato RS3 that just don't run good until it warms up some. after about three laps around the layout it start running great. when you first start running it if you don't keep it running at a fast pace it will stall just like it is loosing track power but as long as i keep it going at a fast pace it runs fine. Then after about three laps i can let it creep around the layout all night and it works fine.
Any ideas as what i need to check on it. maybe the brushes are wore out i don't
know where to start looking
