Wal-mart "enamelized" series???

Does anyone have these? And are they operational? My wife got 2 of them at wally for a buck each (clearance). I see the rails are all plastic, couplers and wheels are not real good either. But are they worth the time and expense? Here's a pic.

Hey there SD those don't look to bad. I think if you replaced the trucks with some made for operational use and aged the cars (weathered) they might be worth the time and effort.

TM...They are in the toy section near the dubs, cat and john deere stuff. I looked at them before and they had open hopper cars too.

I'll try that Lee. I'm hoping to use them without much effort. I have 2 pieces of N scale. These are it.

My wife and kids saw them and thought trains. She bought them, then questioned whether they were the right scale. My thought asre to get some N stuff together and then talk her out of the glass top table in out living room. I would like to do a old west type layout. It would match the decor, so I think I have a chance.

According to some information I've read, these cars were made by Maisto, who also brought you the "High Speed" line of pseudo-N Scale models that are known as the "Readers Digest Train".

These cars are based on the Bachmann models, and the word is that CSX was not at all happy about the graffiti and had it stopped (they do, after all, owned the trademarks underneath all of it).

Most N Scalers that had an opinion of the cars had a negative one, including Bob Hundman late of N Scale magazine, because of the way that the graffiti was being marketed as "art." Not to start up that discussion... My understanding is that enough N Scalers alerted CSX to this that the licensing lawyers stepped in. I've read that there are cars without graffiti available now instead.

I would stay away from them... probably more trouble to change out the wheels and couplers than they are worth. There are better choices for scale equipment.
