Konichiwa! I am one too. My layout is 4'x6' and I just had the coolest experience ever. I went to a hibachi japanese restaraunt.

I model HO scale and I don't plan on entering the water scene this month. I will probably be waiting until april or whenever Kevin decides to make an MOW photo of the month contest.

It's never too late! you can start slowly buying locos and cars and start thinking about the layout design and structures you will need or want and by the time you are ready to build your next layout you will already have some motive power and some cars. then comes the fun part just take your time. Also you can save some money buying 2nd hand stuff on ebay and in antique shops and possibly even the newspaper.

I've seen that one before. People do that a lot, it's actually rather common.

In earlier times (never mind that you guys weren't born yet... I wasn't born yet!) track plans for ping-pong tables were common.

Anyway... I don't qualify as a Junior Engineer-- haven't for, er, never mind. But our two kids, particularly our eight year old daughter Thalia Elizabeth, have a 4x8 in HO Scale that we work with. It's near my main layout which is N Scale.

Post My setup.

At 13 years old, I own a 4x8 layout in my room with a 1.5 inch foam base upon 1/2 inch plywood. Yet to be attached, I'm going to use an adhesive designed for insulation foam. Hand-laying my track is questionable, I'm looking for pre-cut scaled ties. Micro-Engineering's series of track with superb detail draw me in, but I'd like to hand-lay if possible. My current project is posted here:
