Since I am limited to a space that is roughly 10'X6' to build a layout in i have been working on a few designs. I have a design that would allow the entire layout to be pulled from the wall for servicing. I designed these v groove wheels to ride on a v groove track that would be bolted to the floor. If I dont use the v groove track design i will need to use lift-outs. What do you guys think.
Interesting. I like it. I bolted casters underneath my layout so I could pull it away from the wall. It's something like 9' x 10' in an L shape and they work well.
Looks like a pretty decent arrangement that shouldn't get old on you! I'm guessing you're doing N Scale, right?

It's a decent looking plan, what type of road are you thinking of modeling? industry, logging, mining?

Hi guys, thanks for the input. The layout will be HO scale with some light industry and possably a small town due to its size i dont want to overdue it. It will be part CNJ, PRR and my own RR i made up a while back called the Cedar Creek RR. I have a number of CNJ and PRR locos i painted from undecorated kits. I have a few SW units and a 44 tonner done up in the green & white CEDAR CREEK RR colors. If things go the way I hope, construction of the layout should begin in about 8 weeks.
Sounds good Martin, Try and get some pic's in here as you go!!

I will be building my frame work out of 1X6 pine glued and screwed with 16" spacing and blocking. The rizers will be pine and plywood. The roadbed will be 3/4" plywood and the scenery will be built on insulation foam board. The track and switches will be code 83. I also dont know if i will run DC or DCC, (dont know anything about DCC) All my other RR's were DC.
My questions are:
1. What to use under the track (cork or whatever)
2. What switch motors due you guys use or suggest?
Sounds like a good plan, Martin. The 3/4" will definitely prevent any warping from occurring.
1. I would use cork underneath the track for a prototypical appearance.
2. I would use tortoise switch machines mounted underneath the layout where you need electrified switches and hand throws everywhere else, but that is just me.
