Trolley Town Project 7/9 Update

Haven't been back for a while. My desgin has changed considerably since the last time I was on. For those unfamiliar with my project. I love urban details. So, instead of a full layout, I am doing a cityscape with a small countryside. The city is on a 4x3 setting, with the suburban and countryside on an attached 8ft long x 28 inch wide section.

I havent got the entire layout completely planned, but to a lot, it may seem I am working backwards. I have some "set areas" that I am already building (i.e. different buildings, drive-in theatre, condominiums) and I will plan a trolley / interurban two level track around the set pieces.

Thought I would share one of my first set pieces. This is "Jungle Golf". I bought the Marklin mini-golf course and added scenery around it to make an entire setting. Hope to get some comments on what you folks think of the piece. This will end up being at one end of a park that is in the center square of the town portion of the layout.

Here is an overview:

Beginning of the course, including an Easter Island Maui head I hand-molded. This is where the "water" begins. It spouts from his mouth before wending its way through the course:

Back right side of the course. The monkeys and other animals I bought out of 25c vending machines. The dinosaur I found at Goodwill and repainted. The guy in yellow is on one of the more frustrating holes on the course:

Back left side of the course. The "rivers" end up at a pond where one of the holes "bridges" over the full pond. The palm trees are a mix of Woodland Scenics (plastic) and a place I found on e-bay called Architrees (fabric). The smaller of the fabric trees was listed as being N scale, but they work:

Middle back of the course. The man on the bench is deciding on a delightful soft drink. Pop machines easy to make. Resized computer pictures glued to black-painted wood backing:

View from left front corner of course. One of the holes was what we mini-golf enthusiasts call an "anthill", I made two volcanoes to set beside it and turned it into a volcano too:

Front entrance. Sorry for the fuzziness of the upper sign. Found the sign from an actual mini-course called Jungle Golf that is somewhere in the great US of A. The shack was included in the Marklin kit, but I added the tiki masks to either side for the effect of the course:

Would love to hear any and all comments. You can find the larger pics of the course in the member galleries under golf course. hansolo_506 Gallery - The Whistle Post Galleries

Smile HS, you've got a great Creativity Streak going there!

I'm loving it! I especially like the extra creatures to add to the scenery! Looks like you took some time and effort to put it together!

On another note, I'd absolutely stay at least 100 miles away from EVER playing THAT COURSE! But at least you can buy a soda!!

Awesome job!!! We actually have a Jungle Golf not to far from here in Ocean City, MD at Jolly Roger Amusement Park. Your version reminds me a lot of it and it very close. Now I might have to make the drive down there and play.

Well... you made me look. The sign I used comes from a mini course called Jungle Golf in Orlando, Florida. There is also one I found in Virginia Beach. So, you east-coasters must long for the jungle!

Here is the schematic of the track layout (very tentative).

Woohoo!

I entered the mini-golf course in our local county fair and it won the purple ribbon (top) in it's class!

WOOHOO!

Does this mean I can say that it is an "award-winning" layout now?
LOL

Whatever happened to Blue Ribbons???

Seeing that you won an award for your talent and skill in the Greatest Hobby In The World, the answer is undoubtedly YES!

Now were any media covering the event? Anyone mention the event or the fair? If so, then you can also claim that you earned your fifteen minutes of fame as well!

What an accomplishment! All in one day, too!!

(It really is a great piece- honest! oh, and congratulations!)
