Drumlin Forest Lumber

Hi All
Had one of those sections on the layout that I had not been happy with for quite sometime, had one of those "Hillside Lumber" Buildings there that commanded no attention at all,so had been looking to change it up with something a bit more appealing to the eye and make the layout look a bit better, This is a "Walthers Corner Stone" Product I picked it up at the PNMRA show last weekend ( it was already built) I weathered it up a bit more than it was repainted the base and cribbing and added holes for interior lighting at a latter date, and have been working on it and the surrounding area all week,I just finished the Grapple another Walthers kit but this one had to be built a slight weathering on it as well, here's the finished product so far:

The Forklift and figures came with the building, here's from the East side from the back of Cromartie Trucking.

Have to get a better logging truck than what's here and this is just a closer straight on shot.

There will be more expansion of "Drumlin Lumber" and the Oil bulk plant will be moved down to the "Stewart Fuel" area were it should be anyway.

Thats it thanks for looking.

very nice. It'd been neat if you had a before and after shot. It looks like that buildings been sitting there for quite some time. The forklift driver seems to have a crick in his back. You might want to let him take a break to work that out? Whose driving the land rover... owner of the company come down to check on everybody make sure nobodies goofin' off? ...or one of them yuppies from up the hill come down to place a lumber order for his new house? Very nice scene. I'd say it now commands attention!

Question Mike, nice job- a couple questions/thoughts.

Does that kit come with the weathering already done?? I'm kind of curious as to seeing the grapple loader and the logging truck in the yard. Maybe another BIGGER forklift or crane might be in order with that big banded lumber, and maybe a tractor trailer or a big flatbed would be a little more believable.
I love the building overall. Do any of the tracks directly serve the business?
Thanks for putting the pics up!!

Hey TN
Your right I should have taken a before and after, always think of that after the fact, The forklift driver is actually sitting with his legs crossed and eating his lunch, you can see his Lunch box on top of the pallets,he's jawing with the Boss on the office steps, The Land rover belongs to the owner of the Oil Bulk plant next door to Drumlin Lumber,he is down going over plans with "Stewart Fuel" to move his entire operation down to the East side of Lapoint yard and Combine his operation with "Stewart Fuel" since Drumlin is now ending the lease on the property as they plan there expansion over the next year,Lots of work here Holding tanks to be moved, underground Pipes have to be dug up and All the Bulk plants buildings taken apart and moved,
As well Drumlin has huge plans,Planner Mill will go in as well as wrapping and sorting area for the finished wood plus many other structures.
I will make sure all processes are photo graphed as the work goes on, I expect the Crane to be on site sometime soon to start moving the fuel rack.

stay tuned.....

Hey Mike
Yes the kit comes pre weathred but I added more Rust streaks and rubbed it down with ground up charcol sticks just to bring out more detail and repainted the Cribbing both sit on as it as just to shiney.

I will take a picture of the Grapple and logging Truck seperatly and post them for you.

I have more to do on this area,a Planner mill will be going in and yes I will have bigger forklifts for sure I am looking at the *Walthers Kalamar Container Crane* (933-3109) I will pull the crane lift off and kit bash long forks for it most likley will have 2 of these if room permits.
Also will be addeding 3 Trucks to the scene, Walthers Logging Truck (933-4012) as well as there Wood Chip Truck (933-4013) and the Pulp wood Truck (933-4014) the pulp wood truck will be re worked to handle the larger strapped lumber.

Yes 2 tracks will service the Mill in the one picture from Cromartie Trucking that spur is shared by both industries and were the bulk plant is now after it's move that spur will be right beside he new Planner mill so 2 area's to switch for Dumlin Lumber.

Thanks for the idea's
