Need some beginer help.

Im getting ready to place my order to walther for my track. Heres the question before I order whats the difference between code 100 and the other codes for tracks? Some say code 100 ,code 83 etc. Thanks for any and all help...

These "codes" correspond to track size. Code 100 is a bit large for scale looking track in HO. Code 83 is now the accepted "norm" for track in HO. Please consider Nickle silver track, whatever the size.

Code 100 has a taller rail on it then the code 83. But like abutt1 said make sure you are getting nickle sliver track.

I think maybe a "poll" on code 83 track as the "norm"? Most clubs and home layouts around here use code 100.....I agree code 83 looks better......but...is somewhat more $$$$ AND Nickle silver track is the only way to go with out headaches!

Prototypically code 100 is a no no how ever fro operation it is better. Code 83 is the standard and code 70 for yards and sidings etc. (also for hand laying track) is what some are saying is the accepted norm. In my O/P it's all about what you can afford/like. The one big advantage code 83 does have over code 100 is the larger selection or varity of turnouts etc. that are available. I owuld venture to guess maybe twice as many are available in code 83 then code 100

one thing is when chooseing track is your engine how old are they i have a friend that use code 83 but now he can't run his old big boy because of the size of the drivers . I have code 100 on my layout an i think it works the best and is more forgiveing then code 83 or 70.

No question, code 100 is more "forgiving" (not sure what we're forgiving here), and earlier wheel flanges, like Rivorosi would be bumping along the ties in 83 or 70. I've found 83 is still a bit large as far as true scale goes, but strikes a balance between smooth running and looks. And, as mentioned before the 83 turnouts available are beautiful with a wide variety.

Ah why not really drive yourself to drink and can the code 100 and code 83 and use hand layed track on the entire layout. You should first reserve a room at the funny farm
