Google comes through again...

Hardening up the full scale design of my new layout getting ready to order flex track and turnouts, and wanted to "prove" out my turnout sizes before I ordered. Went to Google and asked for full scale HO turnout templates and came up with "Fast Tracks" printable turnout templates for any scale.
So in five minutes I had prints of #4,5,6 right and left, plus a #4 'Y'. this is my fourth layout. I don't know how I ever built numbers 1,2 &3 without Google.

Those are actually templates for hand laid turnout. I would think a turnout its a turnout is a turnout with maybe the exception of stuff like Easy Track" or one of those all in one type track.

That's actually a very smart move to get things just right. I'll pass one one tid bit of information I learned the hard way and then saw George Sileos talk about it on one of Allen Keller's video's is that the min. six turnout for a steam engine is #6. He mentioned that he laid in #4 turnouts on his Franklin & South Manchester and ran a diesel engine across them perfect no problems but as soon as he ran a Mikado or some other medium size steamer across the turnout Bang! derailment. So I don't feel so bad making the same mistake that George Sileos made.

Good luck with the new layout.

I felt the same thing, diesels can handle most any kind of turnout, so I tried to restrict myself to #6s. I found all my original concepts worked fine. I did add a "Y" to one area, a number 4. and now I know just how much my Shinohara's will cost (groan!)...That plus a lot of feet of flex track. But, it's only money..
