Hey waycar,
Glad to have you here with us! I haven't seen or used that specific engine but I tend to shy away from Model Power do to the lack of detail and not to great performance. If it were me I would redo the Athearns or look into a Roundhouse "Critter". Just my opinion

to the forum, Ted.

I would agree with Andy. Try to stay away from the Model Power. They don't have a very good reputation. I would go with the Roundhouse Critter (but I'm biased, I have two of them). Very smooth running and surprisingly powerful given their size.

The biggest drawback to the Critter is the short wheelbase. I'm in the process of wiring mine together because they sometimes stall out over the frog on a switch. Another option if you're looking for small motive power would be an Atlas or Proto switcher. With the eight wheel switchers, the stalling problem goes away due to the longer wheel base.

My P2K SW9 is great for slow speed switching and is only 6 1/4" over the couplers if that helps.
