Hey Steve looks good! Try putting a light behind you for photographing, that will take the contrast out. Your lighting is at a downward projection which is great for the naked eye or in person but the camera needs something behind you. I know that from my own experience. What type of roof did you end up with on the green Coal Building paper or metal?

I used wood molding. This helped to make the shelf look like more a part of the room and less like it didn't belong there..........I hope:
Pay no attention to my messy air hockey table.........err I mean "work bench"
In this last pic, you can see that I cut the shelf away from the fascia. This gap between the higher, level shelf and the sloping molding will eventually be filled with sculptamold for a much smoother transition down towards the coal house:
Have a great weekend!

You may want to have a chat with DJ (Grampy) about the lighting valence. He has it down! The lighting on his layout is very pleasing both in person and in photos!
Looks good Steve. Dccinstalled is right DJ is the pro in many areas especially the lighting. He'll probably suggest a valance in front of those ceiling fixtures.

Thanks Andy!
DCC, Jim...
A valance is definitely in the plans, but it will have to wait (my modeling budget has been spent for the time being) . So I must now turn my attention to things that don't cost money. I have plenty of sculptamold on hand, and I didn't want to permanently affix or wire my track until all the final cutting on the shelf was complete (which it is now)....so I have plenty to keep me busy with for a while.
Just playing with the coal cars:
