Exclamation Dom, check out this link

https://www.csx.com/?fuseaction=general.csxo_map

This is what I found by going on the CSX website. It's a system map, and it looks like they have several lines endiing out in Illinois (as well as other States).

I'm thinking a BNSF/ ATSF connection works for a transcontinental power run through, especially on a unit train.

In this day and age I wouldn't be surprised to see CSX engines on any major road. There is a site called railpictures.net that has a simple search criteria.

I entered CSX and Washington state. Got several hits from 2004 and 2005 from what looked like BNSF country.

I believe the question you are asking is about power sharing among the class 1's? I think all the class 1's have a pool of power in which they draw from and some may owe and others have excess.
As far as ATSF using CSX power, sure. In fact heres a pic of 2 sd70m demos, csx purchases, working in Cali:

Gotta see it with your own eyes, eh??

RailPictures.Net » Photo Search Result

Try this link, lots of pics of mixed BNSF-CSX run throughs. Hope this gets you closer to what you're looking for.
