Flex track

I started putting down the atlas flex track today and i dont see a way to get the little connector to work on the track. The track dont seem to be sticking out far as it needs to be to get the connector on both side with out leaving a gap in the rails. So tell me how you guys work this out.

Get a pair of sprue cutters or wire cutters and clip one or two of the ties off each end. Make sure you save the ties, just cut them under the rail part. Put on the rail joiners, nail or glue down, solder if you like. Then clip the pieces of plastic of the tie so you have just the single ties. Sand the top lightly with sand paper to remove the rail spikes and plates then slide the single tie into the hole that was left under the joiner. When you ballast the track you will never see it!!!
