Hmmmm

Like most here was a tin plate train I got for Christmas around 1963-64,woke up that morning and Mom & Dad had it running was the coolest thing ever, but what got me really started was a Train trip my brother and I took from Spy Hill Saskatchewan to Winnipeg Manitoba to see my Aunt and Cousin when I was about 6 years old,the train ride was so awsome but what got me was arriveing at the Winnipeg station and my Aunt (Who worked for CN and did for 40 years at this station) came to pick us up and in the Main entrance was this Model train display to a 6 year old it was Humungus now I am assumeing it was about 10' X 20' all behind glass, all sceneicked,Mountains, bridges, buildings and several trains all running at once, one look and I knew this was my hobby for life,as I recall my Aunt took me back to that display many times over the years and as all the other kids were reading Comics (which I did as well) my main read was always "Model Railroader" and if you were really lucky you sometimes got to read a current "Walthers catalogue" and dream of what one day you would buy for your layout...I have never since been without some sort of layout since then and most likely never will be....My 1st Traing set now there's another story.........

French Canabian's? Never heard of those people before. Anyways, I wanted to participate in this thread but it took me a while to dig down to the bottom of the box and find my "first loco". Well guess what? FOUND IT! My grandmother bought it for me for Christmas when I was but 8 years old (late 70's) . It is a Bachman EMD GP 40. It ran strong for the longest time. I don't know if it still does or not. All of my other cheapy engines have come and gone but this one holds a sentimental spot as my grandmother passed many years ago.

Anddddd, we've even got one of that very Christmas morning of some weird looking little kid and his grandmother grandmother where he's holding that very locomotive.
