I wish to thank each and avery one of you for a warm welcome and the good advice.

I also wish to apologize for the delay in answering, but I had to get out of the house for all of the grandchildren were driving me crazy. I love them very much, but at my age 48 hours is a little longer than my nerves can stand. So I went motorcycle riding, I would be willing to bet that I am a comical sight to see.

I have been trying to find someone that is into model trains and I cannot find anyone around here, so I must rely completely upon you gentlemen. My common sence (what little I have left) tells me that the controller and the track are the backbone of the system. So I was wondering if any of you gentlemen would keep me from making the same mistakes that you made. If you was going to buy a controller with DCC, which one would you buy? If you was going to buy track, what kind of track (brand and type) would you buy? I will be running multiple trains hopefully.

I am going to buy a starter set, just to play with and pick up a little more each month. I am on a limited income and I don't have that much space. I have an empty room that I built and it is 24 by 28 foot.

Steam, if 24ft x 28ft is your idea of not much space, then I'd love to know what your idea of a mansion is !!! lol

Cheers, Simon

Hey Steam,
You might be opening a can of worms with loaded questions like those. Just about everyone has a different favorite controller and favorite track. But just to give you some ideas maybe we could tell you what each of us use. I for example use the Digitrax Zepher unit with Peco code 83 track.

I don't mean to open any cans of worm's but I am having a hard time getting a handle on things. What is needed and the cost of things? What will I have to buy to get a small system going with one or 2 side rails?

Although I am reasearching and watching vids, I dont even have the common sence of HO modeling. How to buy, without having to buy twice because you bought a limited componant because you want to make an expanion.

I will continue reading-----a lot, in fact.

Thank you Catt

Thank you Trainman 1965
You are about 180 miles from me, I am next to the SC border, its about 15 minutes away.
I am now looking at control systems and am looking at Digitrax chief and became more confused becuse of radio and IF. Every time I think I am ready to order,--- something else comes up that I don't understand. Hehe, part of the hobby I guess.
