Steve what you can do of course is go to HOn30 that way you have the space requirements of N scale yet the size of HO and can pack in a lot of stuff in narrow gauge. I hope that helps

However having said that, if you are newish to the hobby in the building part then stick with HO as it has so much more stuff that you can buy and won't frustrate the beginner as much when looking into getting houses or trains or track etc etc.
