You really don't need a layout, but I didn't say that!

Steve, a lot of people think they need a layout to do all their work and pictures with. I did most of the work on my rolling stock and engines before I ever had a place to run them! When I got to finally laying some track down, I had the equipment in pretty decent shape, but most of all, I could concentrate on the rest of the RR, without worrying that my HO Paint Shop was being over ambitious with all the new paintwork! Now I can work on the cars and engines as I get them, one or two at a time. One of the things I tinkered with between layouts was a diorama and tried scenery techniques, and I had a place to show my trains. So I had my cake and got to eat it too!! (And I love cake!!)
